St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts provides a wide variety of cultural events for the enrichment of residents and tourists in the Androscoggn Valley. The Community Arts Center was opened in 2000 after the former St. Kieran Church was closed. An area-wide committee of concerned community residents, who believed the area needed a cultural center, spearheaded the idea for such a center. In turn, this would keep the historic building in use. The Bishop of Manchester gave his approval and, two years later, turned the ownership over to the Board of Directors. The building is a beautifully preserved example of late nineteenth century architecture. It is complete with a pipe organ purchased in 1898, which remains in good condition to this day. The church's baroque-style interior seats about four hundred and is enhanced by particularly fine acoustics. Regular events have been held here since the Arts Center was first opened in November 2000, and an active future is foreseen as it continues to fulfill its new role as a venue for performing arts in northern New Hampshire. |
